How do I break the news? I don't like to hear the kids in the background when I have a conversation with my friend on the phone. Laura

Dear Laura,

I understand your frustration. It surly sounds like you are single and have no kids around you.
I don't want to say that you want your friend for yourself, not for what she is. But, I think if you want someone for what they are, you will understand their situation. And when you understand the situation, it won't bother you anymore.

People with kids have a complete different life style than singles. They have all the responsibility of another human beings in addition of all the other responsibilities.

When you call your friend, she can't tell the kids to hide in the closet, or scream at them to be quite, because miss friend is calling and I have to devote my 100% attention to my friend.
But, of course she is your friend, she is listening to you, helping you with whatever is involved.
If you don't like the disturbance from the kids, just say to call you back when she is not busy with the kids. You also can ask to call her back when kids are at school, or nap, or whenever is the best time for her without kids disturbance.
