Who is a leader, who is not? 
What does it take to get up to the desired level? 
What does it take to be a successful leader?

The first step is to look into two major type of performance:

* Unskilled performance
This is characterized by lack of consistency. Performance is irregular. There is no smoothness or skill involved.

* Skilled performance
This is characterized by consistency. Performance is regular. There is smoothness and coordination.

The recognition of skilled people:
* Adoptable & Flexible
* Characterized by clear sense of purpose
* People who have speed, accuracy, and style
* Consistent in the results they achieve
* Coordinated, smooth, and rhythmic in their actions

The Acquisition of Skill
Practice is all-important. So are knowledge and feedback. A skilled person performs accurately, and at greater speed, than an inexperienced one. 
Skill also depends upon an ability to react quickly and accurately to an emerging situation. Ability to anticipate is essential. An attitude of mind is also involved.

The Development of Skill, consist of three stages:
* The Knowledge Phase which involves the skill and gaining background information.
- What to expect
- What to look out for and avoid
- The procedure to be followed
- What needs to be known
- What precautions to take
- What standards have to be reached
- Close attention to analyzing error
* The Acquisition Phase involves correct patterns of behavior.
- A demonstration of the skill
- Opportunity to imitate the skill
- Practice the skill under real conditions
- Knowledge of results
- Great sense of personal management
* The Automatic Phase takes you to speed and accuracy. As the skill becomes more and more automatic, resistance to stress increases and the concentration grows.
- Acquire rhythm and coordination
- Over learn the skill
- Learn how to resist stress and interference
- Increase sped and accuracy
- Achieve the Experienced Worker Standard.
- Maintain mastery once it has been achieved

A true leader:
* Takes all steps and stages of growth to enhance her life and others. 
* Has a great communication skill.
* Knows that guidance reduces the chances of error  
* Express the importance of values such as: honesty, justice, and equality
* The importance of good attitudes such as: cooperation, safety, team work, and promptness
* Knows to give rewards when is needed
* Has an open mind toward criticism 

A leader has a positive attitude and a great resistant when faced with change and challenges. 
A great leader is not afraid of failure, and wont allow any negativity or fear get close.
